St. Sava's Academy 2026
At the gathering jointly organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Helsinki and the Helsinki Parish of the Finnish Orthodox Church, speeches on the life and legacy of Saint Sava were delivered by Ambassador Janković, representatives of the Finnish Orthodox Church Fr. Andreas Salminen, Fr. Heikki Huttunen, and Fr. Nemanja Balčin, Archpriest of the Serbian Orthodox Church Fr. Aleksandar Samardžić from Malmö and University of Helsinki professor Dr. Brendan Humphreys.
During the event, appropriate messages from His Eminence Ilia, Archbishop of the Finnish Orthodox Church, and from the Archbishop of Stockholm and Metropolitan of Scandinavia of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Dositej, were also read.
The gathering also included a presentation of the Serbian tradition of celebrating the Slava, particularly the ritual cutting of the Slava bread, a sacred act symbolizing faith, unity, and thanksgiving.
