Presentation of singing with the gusle at the Embassy
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Janković emphasized the importance of guslar singing for the Serbian people and its role in preserving national identity and tradition. He also reminded that guslar singing, as part of Serbia’s heritage, was inscribed in 2018 on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Gusle player Bojana Peković presented this traditional instrument, highlighting its cultural significance for the Serbian nation. She also performed several songs accompanied by the gusle, which was met with particularly positive reactions and ovations from the audience. She spoke about the common themes of guslar songs, which—besides their predominantly epic content featuring mythological and historical heroes—also include lyrical and sometimes humorous elements.
