Political Consultations between Serbia and Finland in Helsinki
During the consultations, bilateral relations between the two countries were reviewed. It was noted that the bilateral political dialogue has intensified through the implementation of joint activities and mutual visits. In this context, particular attention was drawn to the recent return visit of the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Ms. Ana Brnabić, to Finland, which took place in early March 2026.
Economic cooperation, the ICT sector, environmental protection, healthcare, and forestry were identified as areas of mutual interest with potential for further development.
Special attention was devoted to the process of European integration of the Republic of Serbia and the region, as well as to other current issues of importance for the European Union. On that occasion, the Finnish side reiterated its support for the European Union’s enlargement policy.
Our side pointed to the extremely difficult situation of the Serbian and other non-Albanian communities in Kosovo and Metohija and emphasized our commitment to the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.
Views were also exchanged on the current situation in Ukraine and other issues of key importance for European security.
During their stay in Helsinki, the Serbian delegation also held separate meetings with Outi Holopainen, State Under-Secretary for Foreign and Security Policy at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, as well as with Miina Kivimäki, State Secretary for EU Affairs at the Office of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo.
The delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia was headed by Acting Assistant Minister for Bilateral Cooperation, Ambassador Tamara Rastovac Siamashvili, with the participation of Acting Assistant Minister for Multilateral Cooperation Katarina Lalić Smajević, Acting Assistant Minister for the European Union Miloš Todorović, Head of the Department for Europe Milena Mitić, and Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Finland Aleksandar Janković.
The delegation of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Finland was headed by Ambassador Sari Rautio, Director General for Euro-Atlantic Affairs, with the participation of Miia Lahti, Director of the Unit for Southeast Europe and EU Enlargement at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.
