Armistice Day

A gathering dedicated to Armistice Day in the First World War was held today at the Embassy.

Opening the event, Ambassador Janković spoke in more detail about Serbia’s role in the First World War and its significant contribution to the victory of the Allies. The event also featured speeches by the director of the renowned Finnish foreign policy institute Aleksanteri, Prof. Markku Kangaspuro, as well as Dr. Brandon Hemphries and Bojana Damnjanović from the University of Helsinki. The gathering was also addressed by Archbishop Ilija of the Finnish Orthodox Church and Fr. Heikki Hutunen, representing the National Forum for Cooperation of Finland with Religious Communities. Excerpts from the documentary film “The Calvary of Serbia” were shown during the event, along with an accompanying art installation.

Among the many attendees were representatives of the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Parliament and other institutions, members of the diplomatic corps, clergy of the Finnish Orthodox Church, representatives of the academic community, and members of our community in Finland.

A reception was also held on the occasion, at which some traditional dishes of Serbian cuisine were presented.
