A gathering was held at the Embassy to mark Armistice Day and the 110th anniversary of the beginning of World War I and the first Allied victory – the Battle of Cer.
In his opening speech, Ambassador Janković spoke in detail about Serbia’s role in World War I, its immense sacrifices, and its significant contribution to the Allies' victory. The gathering featured speeches by Professor Marku Kangaspuro, Director of the renowned Finnish foreign policy institute Aleksanteri, and Dr. Brendon Hemphries from the University of Helsinki, who provided a historical retrospective of the events, with a special focus on Serbia’s role and contribution to the Allies’ victory. Father Heikki Huttunen, Chairman of the Finnish National Forum for Cooperation with Religious Communities, also addressed the gathering.
After the presentations, the documentary film "The Calvary of Serbia" was shown.
The event was attended by representatives of the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the diplomatic corps, the academic community, and the Serbian community in Finland. A special reception was held afterward, featuring traditional Serbian dishes.
