A child born abroad, whose one parent was a citizen of the Republic of Serbia at the time of birth, acquires Serbian citizenship by descent. The birth registration application must be submitted through the diplomatic-consular mission covering the area where the birth occurred.
 
At the same time as submitting the birth registration application, a request for entry into the records of Serbian citizens must also be submitted (Articles 9 and 10 of the Citizenship Law).
 
For the registration of a child born abroad in the birth registry and the records of Serbian citizens, the following documents must be provided:
 
1. Original foreign birth certificate – a birth certificate issued by the competent Finnish authorities, certified with an Apostille stamp and translated into Serbian (Cyrillic script) by a certified translator. In the Republic of Serbia, a person can have a maximum of three given names. If the child or individual has more than three given names, the parents must decide which name will be used in legal transactions in the Republic of Serbia
 
2. Documents of both parents – a valid passport or ID card of the Republic of Serbia for the parent who is a Serbian citizen, and a copy of the foreign passport or other foreign identification document of the parent who is not a Serbian citizen
 
3. Application for entry into the Serbian birth registry, to be completed at the Embassy
 
4. Application for registering the child in the records of Serbian citizens, to be completed at the Embassy
 
5. Consular fees - stamp tax is not charged, only particular expenses of 9 euros
